Stooooodent!!

I am once again a student :) Many thanks to all the people who said I could do it. Also many, many thanks to the people at Westminster who thought my portfolio cut the mustard. And finally many thanks to the people who got me into the world of Urbex and shoved me in the right direction of my first beautiful sites, many of which made up my portfolio selection.

Can’t wait – roll on Ocotber :)

And the power to impress…

Ok – So 1 point to anyone who can spot the lyric. Yesterday I had my interview and presented my portfolio. It went really well and I’m feeling good about it. There was a lot of Urbex based pics and they were very well received.

The plan is now to start sharing many of these with you (and my other photography) in a more serious fashion and to kick it off I have uploaded an entry for my jaunt to West Park and supplied a great quantity of pics for the gallery.

I am also going to start putting together a section on various site. Initially these will be lifted straight from Wiki but i hope that eventually it will develop into an information source in its own right.

And I’m Back…

Ok so after much drama-lama I am back online. My new Macbook Pro arrived at the end of last week drawing to an end the saga of its theft and replacement. Fear not, posts and pics are coming but I have  portfolio to pull together for a university interview next Friday and I’m afraid, dear bored reader that it must come first.

Just to give you an idea of what is to come, there’ll be back dated posts of Cane Hill, Hellingly, Thorpe Marsh Power Station and Steetly… And yesterday (thanks to Winchy for the lifts to and from Epsom station) I had my first successful visit to West Park. That’s the place where it’s at now for sure! We barely scratched the surface :)

Also in the not too distant future there is a mega-photo-docutrip to  Hellingly in which the plan is to do a complete sweep of both floors of the main building and Park House to give it a decent send off pending its impending demolition. I also want to see what’s left of the kitchen and the laundry.

So guys, thanks for sticking around and watching a blog of only one post, but more cometh :) I promise.

West Park Hospital 11th July 2009

I stood under the shelter of the entrance to Epsom station waiting for Winchester to arrive. It was grey, cold and the drizzle added to the gloom of the place. Epsom felt like the end of the world. I had trudged to Mac Donalds and had a double cheese burger to pass the time and get into the warm but found myself back in the grey, waiting.

Winchester arrived and saved my from the locals and we headed towards the hospital. We parked up in the usual spot and wondered over the road. I was a bit jumpy – this would turn out to be my first successful trip in and the last time i had been in particular, the security guard had swooped down on me in mere moments.

Anyway we walked around looking for some mythical propped shut door near a staircase without success. Padded around the grounds a bit and then found a broken window into the corridors. Do we go in? We had nothing to loose but the corridors are the place where you are most likely to get caught. Now it was a case of trying doors into blocks to find one that was open… Eventually we did – and we were in.

There were some amazingly rotten floors, but following the beams and being a bit daring paid off. We had stumbled into the block with the padded cell (Dartford and Denton) and the store room in which the clothes of patients still hung.

On with the pics…
